Don Douglass and Réanne Hemingway-Douglass of Douglass, Hemingway & Co. LLC, are the authors of the popular Exploring series of nautical guidebooks that cover the Pacific Coast. Over the past 40 years, the Douglasses have logged more than 170,000 cruising miles from 60°N latitude to 63°S. They have documented over 6,000 anchor sites between San Diego and the Alaska Peninsula. Exploring Southeast Alaska remains their best-selling title. In addition to guidebooks, the Douglasses have designed and printed ten nautical planning maps from the tip of Baja to Prince William Sound. Prior to their explorations of the West Coast, the Douglasses were the principals of Wilderness Group, Inc., a company that manufactured and distributed Alpenlite backpacks, Kangaroo Baggs bicycle gear and Plumline clothing. Don was drafted into the Army from Ketchikan in 1953 where he lived with his family. As an 18-year old, he crewed on a fish trap off Point Alava.

Don is an honorary member of the International Association of Cape Horners and, as the author of several mountain biking guidebooks and a father of the sport, he was elected to the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame. Haight & Associates, Inc. is an Alaska based firm providing electrical engineering design/consulting services throughout the state since 1980.   Our services vary from analyzing problems, to planning optimum project parameters, to design and development of construction documents and contract administration. We have a long history of involvement with harbor projects including large and small docks/wharfs, marinas, and fueling facilities. The engineering services provided by the firm on marina electrical systems include power distribution, shore-tie pedestals, lighting, communications and sewage pump stations.

H&A assisted with the engineering for an 11,100 volt, 8,000 KW shore power system to the Princess Cruise Ship landing in Juneau, the first of its kind.  We developed the design for the initial use of 480 volt distribution systems in marinas to offset excessive voltage drop to the vessels in Juneau and Kodiak harbors.  We also helped develop the installation of electronic metering at the shore-tie pedestals enabling them to be monitored from centrally located computers, and allowing for easier shore-tie management for transient vessels in Ketchikan harbor.  In recent years we developed float system lighting using luminares mounted to shore-tie pedestals.

Haight & Associates is currently involved with projects to upgrade existing Ketchikan harbors, Skagway Harbor, Douglas Harbor and Haines Portage Cove as well as assisting with new harbors or harbor additions in Seward and Wrangell and now initiating engineering for the Hoonah Industrial Marine Facility.

High Tide Exploration helps communities and businesses responsibly develop their infrastructure and respond to resource agency concerns before, during, and after construction. Our experience is based on over 12 years of working on all environmental aspects of port and harbor projects throughout Alaska for the Corps of Engineers. Throughout the years, projects have required intertidal and subtidal habitat assessments, waterfowl and marine mammal surveys and monitoring, underwater noise impact assessments, biological assessments for endangered species, NEPA document preparation, and mitigation strategy development. Past experience includes work at harbors in Unalaska, Akutan, False Pass, Sand Point, Chignik Bay, Old Harbor, Port Lions, Kodiak, Ouzinkie, Homer, Anchorage, Seward, Whittier, Valdez, Haines, Juneau, Douglas, Kake, Sitka, and Petersburg.

High Tide Exploration was formed to compliment the coastal ecology focus of High Tide Environmental. We utilize a small remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to gather high-definition underwater video, with an operating depth to 1,000 feet. Our ROV is highly portable and can be deployed with one person, which is a major asset in remote communities. Ecological surveys are meaningful since the ROV pilot is a biologist and can focus on all phases of harbor development, from existing condition assessments to post construction monitoring. Marine infrastructure can be viewed as part of a final inspection when construction is complete or to monitor the condition of pilings, chains, anodes, and outfalls during routine inspections. Additionally, the ROV is well suited to aid law enforcement in locating and recovering drowning victims using the manipulator and a tether capable of lifting hundreds of pounds.

Utilizing an ROV used to be limited to critical tasks on large budget projects. Due to its small size, the entire ROV can travel as checked baggage and be deployed by one person from a skiff or lowered to the water from any height by its tether. Now, ROV surveys no longer need to be major logistical and financial undertaking reserved for situations when there is no alternative. As shown by the video quality on our website, our ROV provides a capable and affordable solution.

Mr. Reynolds has been engaged in the furnishing, fabrication and assembly of Treated Timber Floating Docks since 1984.  Matheus Lumber began in 1932 as a wholesaler of West Coast

Specie Lumber Products to the Construction Industry.  In 2005, Matheus Lumber recorded gross sales of $115,000,000.  There are several divisions within Matheus Lumber Company, all revolving around the Forest Products Industry.
In 1984, Mr. Reynolds initiated a Marina Division to include the bidding, takeoff and sales execution of various marine construction projects primarily in Southeast Alaska.  To date, Matheus has successfully completed over one hundred fifty fabricated float projects in the State of Alaska, all with 100% satisfaction by all entities involved.

Matheus Lumber compiles, fabricates and assembles these projects in our Maltby Washington Fabrication Facility.  In addition to the float projects, this yard fabricates all kinds of wood products into value-added components such as crane mats, glue-lam bridges, trestles and approaches, fixed docks and piers, steamship fender systems, and sold sawn trusses.  This year also applies the coating to the EPS foam billets for our float projects.  All float components run through this yard and are identified, fabricated and complied for the assembly process.

Of these 150 plus projects, around ten to fifteen projects involve a sales price from Matheus that exceeds $500,000.  A list of these projects is available and does include State of Alaska DOT funded projects.  Among these are fifteen large Seaplane Float Projects, including Whale Pass, Hydaburg, Petersburg, Tenakee, Thorne Bay, Point Baker, Craig, Metlakatla, Bartlett Cove, Hoonah and Ketchikan.  In addition, Matheus has furnished several complete State DOT/PF designed harbor renovations.  These include Thomsen Harbor in Sitka; Pelican Harbor, Craig Harbor, Ouzinkie and Larsen Bay Harbors, Bar Harbor in Ketchikan, and Skagway Harbor.

Every one of our clients was very satisfied with our products and workmanship.  Not one project had to be visited to complete repairs or workmanship.

NPC Energy Services is a full service electrical contractor, and we specialize in Electrical Preventive Maintenance (EPM), arc flash safety, and NFPA 70E compliance solutions.

Our core business is protecting commercial and industrial facilities and personnel from electrical hazards and system failures that result in property damage, interruptions in operations, and citations.  The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace is the document most often referenced for electrical safety and preventive maintenance procedures.  OSHA enforces the electrical workplace safety standards outlined in NFPA 70E, but in addition to this requirement, the standard also drives facility productivity. An electrical accident or arc flash is not only a dangerous and preventable situation for workers, it can render equipment unusable and result in costly repairs and downtime at a facility.

We prevent these incidents by helping our clients become NFPA 70E compliant and by performing scheduled EPM service and repairs.  We have two Level 2 IR technicians on staff who are specially trained to perform energized testing and maintenance.  We also have extensive experience performing arc flash hazard analysis calculations, arc flash hazard equipment labeling, coordination studies, and one-line diagram maintenance.  We offer on-line and classroom lock-out tag-out and arc flash hazard training for personnel, PPE procurement, EPM planning and scheduling, secure on-line electrical system documentation, and comprehensive 70E compliance documentation to provide the most reliable and safe electrical systems possible.

Our results are guaranteed.  Equipment tested by our technicians will perform as specified, and if it fails during the life of the guarantee, we will repair or replace that equipment at no cost to the owner.

Give us a call, we're happy to answer your electrical questions, talk about risk management, or provide a free site evaluation.

Prior to forming PPM, principals jointly controlled Hurlen Construction Company. Hurlen Construction Company was originally founded in 1969 as a family-owned business focusing on small marine and foundation projects until 1995. From 1995 to 2002, Hurlen expanding into geographically diverse markets including British Columbia and Alaska. In 2002, the company was acquired by a Colorado-based construction firm. In 2006, the principals sold their majority shares and left the organization. In 2007, after observing a year-long non-compete clause, the original partners and a select group of key employees registered the name and soon after re-established a presence as a premier marine contractor.

PPM was established with the goal to provide unparalleled construction solutions to complex projects with safety as our top priority. Our commitment to safety, quality, and innovation are the engines that drive our firm forward. Our commitment goes well-beyond delivering projects on-time and within budget; we consistently add value to the process by focusing on pre-planning and project constructability to find ways to lower cost and increase efficiency. We empower our crews to think creatively. A common phrase around our office is the impossible just takes a little longer.

From preconstruction to final development, our team works in a collaborative manner to understand the unique needs for every project we perform. Our partnering process ensures a clear vision from the earliest stages of the project. Having this understanding allows us to ask the right questions to make the right decisions on every project.

At Petro Marine Services, we pride ourselves on serving the unique petroleum needs of a broad range of Alaskan industries. From fishing to home fuel sales. Power generation to petroleum. Tourism to timber. Transportation. Construction. Mining. Retail gasoline. And we do it in some of the harshest and most challenging environments on earth.

By living by our motto - "Fine Fuels, Super Service, Quality Lubricants" - we've grown to become Alaska's largest independent petroleum marketing and distribution company, serving customers throughout Southeast and Southcentral Alaska, as well as the Yukon Territory. R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M) is an Alaska-based company originally formed in 1969. Since our inception, R&M has provided planning, design, and construction administration services related to waterfront facilities for ports and harbors throughout Alaska.

Ports and harbor facilities in Alaska require special design considerations for cold weather considerations associated with our extreme environmental conditions (e.g., extreme tides, snow and ice loads, icing within port and harbor facilities; cold temperature effects on utility design and seasonal versus all-season services to waterfront facilities; permafrost; seismic conditions; etc.). R&M is experienced with designing for these challenges, as is exemplified by our staff’s wide range of waterfront engineering project experience. R&M’s marine staff waterfront facility design experience includes piers and wharfs, breakwaters, coastal erosion protection, dredging, harbor float systems, terminals, barge landings, boat launch ramps, bulk handling facilities, travel lift facilities, condition assessments and maintenance of port facilities, fender and mooring systems, waterfront area master planning and upland support facilities. In addition, we have in-house expertise available to provide assistance with the necessary support services for these projects, such as geotechnical studies, civil transportation and utilities design, structural/building design, on- and off-shore surveying, sediment sampling and permitting, and other environmental permitting.

R&M’s marine staff has completed waterfront projects in all coastal areas of the state, in communities such as Anchorage, Bethel, Chenega, Cordova, Golovin, Tatitlek, Ketchikan, Unalaska, Whittier, Juneau/Douglas, Akutan, Mertarvik, St. George, Kongiganak, Dillingham, Nikiski, Skagway, Sand Point, False Pass, Kotzebue, Old Harbor, Seward, Pelican, Togiak, Petersburg, Wrangell, Ugashik, Valdez, Kodiak, as well as U.S. Navy piers in Amchitka and Behm Canal, among others.

Simply pour the oil-water mixture in the top and within seconds, clear water is coming out the bottom. In repeated tests with diesel, motor oils and gasoline at initial hydrocarbon levels of 30,000 to over 250,000 ppm, the water scrubber removed over 99.9% of the hydrocarbons in one quick pass. (Test data available on request.)

We also supply larger incinerators and will quote based on size and needs.

Spill Shield Inc. is also your source for all B.A.G. Corp. products in Alaska. The Super Sack Container is a woven polypropylene flexible intermediate bulk container (FIBC) for the shipping, handling and storing of
