About
The Alaska Railroad (ARRC) is a Class II railroad which extends from Seward and Whittier, though Fairbanks, to Fort Wainwright carrying both freight and passengers. The railroad has over 656 miles of mainline track and several waterfront facilities. Our Whittier Terminal transports primarily freight and connects the Alaska Railroad to the North American railbelt via barges which sail from the ARRC owned Harbor Island Terminal in Seattle, and the CN Rail-owned Aquatrain Terminal in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. The Port of Seward includes freight, passenger and coal docks, and an undeveloped barge basin. The Nanana River dock is under lease from the City, but is not currently being operated.
